The African Association for Wildlife in Human Care (AAWHC) is proud to announce its official establishment as a registered non-profit company — a significant milestone for wildlife institutions across the African continent.
AAWHC envisions a future in which all African organisations holding wildlife in human care are accredited, credible, and effective centres of excellence. This vision is built upon a shared commitment to animal welfare, conservation, public education, and environmental stewardship.
Our Mission is to inspire, guide, and support African zoos, aquaria, and similar facilities in becoming global leaders in animal care — while advancing conservation efforts and fostering public understanding of wildlife and the natural world.
In pursuit of international best practices and credibility, AAWHC has submitted its application for membership to the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). This step underscores the Association’s dedication to upholding the highest global standards in ethical and responsible animal care.
We invite the broader conservation, education, and zoological communities to explore our mission and ongoing initiatives by visiting our newly launched website: www.aawhc.co.za.
